CAO Offers 2016 - The Stats

There were 80,887 applicants to the CAO this year which was an increase of 1,673 on last year.

A record 52,289 offers will be made through the CAO today in Round One offers. 41,500 will receive a level-eight course offer, with just over half of those for the applicant's first preference.
34,000 offers have been made for places on courses at levels six and seven.

According to media outlets this morning, about one-third of honours degree courses saw a points increase. Construction related courses including engineering, technology and architecture all saw increases as did nursing and many business studies courses. However points fell in many Arts courses and fell slightly for Medicine.

Here are today’s stats for the CAO 2016 according to

  • There have been a total of 41,422 level 8 offers and 34,073 Level 7/6 offers in Round One.

  • Level 8 Round One first preference offers: 21,505 (32,912 receiving preference 1, 2 or 3) i.e. 52% receiving preference 1, 79% receiving preference 1, 2 or 3.

  • Level 7/6 Round One first preference offers: 29,045 (33,011 receiving 1, 2 or 3) i.e. 85% receiving preference 1, 97% receiving preference 1, 2, or 3.

  • Applicants receiving offers to date total: 60,304

  • 11,553 mature applicants, 6,618 received offers

  • 69,346 presented Leaving Certificate, 55,475 received offers

  • 15,486 presented QQI FET/FETAC, 10,880 received offers

  • 2,562 presented GCE and GCSE, 1,316 received offers

  • 7,114 with previous Higher Education, 5,458 received offers

    3,822 presented Other School Leaving qualifications, 1,649 received offers
