World Book Day 2011 'set to benefit secondary school children'

Posted by SchoolDays Newshound on 04/03/2011. World Book Day 2011 'set to benefit secondary school children' Tags: Secondary School News

World Book Day 2011 will benefit pupils in secondary schools across Ireland as well as their primary school counterparts, it has been suggested.

According to the Guardian, the event, which took place yesterday (March 3rd), involved some 14 million book tokens distributed to attendees of schools across the country and the UK in order to encourage pupils to develop their reading skills.

In the past, World Book Day has been solely targeted at younger children in primary schools, but this year organisers have also attempted to include teenagers in secondary schools within its remit.

For example, the news source noted that in response to the "rapid spread of e-book reading", World Book Day includes downloadable stories from new website Digi-tale - which is to be launched later this month - that allows students to purchase literature with their tokens.

Meanwhile, the results of the Evans Short Story Competition, which saw entries from children from schools across Ireland and the UK are set to be announced in the near future.
